DateYourselfGirl Gives Back
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2016 was absolutely spectacular! As a kid I never really understood the significance of the day other than I got the chance to miss a day of school. My parents were both educators and did their share of informing me about my history and the influential people who helped shape our communities and our lives. Yes, I participated in the marches to commemorate the legacy of Dr. King and how it impacted the community, the nation, and the world but never really understood the "Why". After spending my second year at the Hosea Helps MLK Jr. Day Festival of Services I realized his dream was for us to come together and serve. Serving others has been a mission of mine ever since I embarked on this DateYourselfGirl journey. For two years I had a dark cloud looming over me. I was consumed with the things I didn't have like money, material things, and even a mate and instead of focusing on the things I had like my health, loving parents, supportive friends, and an accomplished career. See, I was selfish. Yes, you read it correctly I said that I was SELFISH!!! I have found great fulfillment in giving back to others whether it be buying a homeless persons meal or giving my used clothes or collecting diapers for mothers in need. It brings my heart pleasure to be able to bring a smile to someone's face and that's what Hosea Helps has allowed me to do. I'm so grateful to be linked with such an inspirational and motivationl organization that gives back not just once a year but 365 days a year. So thank you Hosea Helps for inspiring DateYourselfGirl to Give Back...365!!!
Special Thank You to those who donated diapers, wipes, and coats...without your support this couldn't be possible!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
